Students' Voices

What motivates you to be a volunteer?

“I am motivated to volunteer by knowing that all of my hard work and effort will go into something meaningful. By volunteering in (In)visible women, we are given the chance to give back to our community and help improve the lives of countless people.”

- Brady and Nathan

What is the most rewarding part of being in the club?

“In our opinion, being in (In)visible Women’s club is extremely rewarding because getting to meet the people who have experienced this in the past or are currently struggling with homelessness is extremely interesting. Additionally, seeing how much our help from the fundraisers has helped women around the city feels very fulfilling. We are able to hear so many inspiring stories of women who have recovered from being homeless and are now living a successful life.

Being a part of this amazing club allows many of us to feel like we are making a difference in our community, and are improving women’s living conditions all around the city.”

-Alice, Mia and Rama

What motivates you to be a volunteer?

“What motivates us to volunteer is that we realize that we are more fortunate than others and we can help people who are less fortunate. Volunteering also boosts morality because we acknowledge that we are doing good for others in the community. “

- Téa, Margherita, Karen, Wijdan, and Prachi

What is one thing that you want your community to know about homelessness?

“I want my community to know that there are ways to help fight homelessness that can be local or even on a smaller scale, although homelessness is a large scale and important issue. For instance, in INvisible women raises money for the Dwelling place in New York City through bake sales, and fundraisers. Also other organisations support the cause to prevent homelessness like Housing Works, a volunteer based bookshop. Especially in New York a huge city, it is possible to start locally towards working to diminish homelessness.  “

Why did you join (In)visible Women?

'I wanted to be a more active part of the UNIS community and I thought (In)visible would be a good pace to start especially because homelessness is a current issue here in NYC.”

-Ella

"I wanted to be an involved member in my community and take an active role in supporting homeless women.”

-Charlotte

"I want to know more about the homeless issue, and I want to help the club to raise money for them.”

-Yujia
